Limescale?

ok, i live in a "hardwater" area, and my level gauge in my water tank on the bus has started behaving , erm, well, incorrectly.
so i dropped the tank today, popped the seder out, and one of the legs is "furred" up with limescale, badly.
The reason it is only on one leg is electrical, it has only biult up on the neg leg...

now, my reason and question for posting in tech?

how do i remove the limescale? without damaging the resistance of the leg of the sender?

AND dont say calgone, i drink this water from this tank, and take a calgone tablet everyday with my other medication! haha

immerse in boiling water and use a sachet of scale remover you'd use on a kettle?? and maybe burtex/wet and dry the remains off afterwards

Limescale is calcium carbonate, Acid breaks this down, as its used in a "potable" situation I'd use something edible, vinigar might do the trick leave it in neat overnight then wipe of with clean green pad if necessary.

thanks for the replys.... after posting this and mulling over a brew, i decided to consult my trusty copy of "Fenland solutions to everyday problems" and came accross the vinegar one, so i popped some vinegar in a test tube, wapped it in the nuclear cooker ( microwave) got it to near boiling and dropped the said sender into it, left it whilst i had yet another brew, a smoke and surf, came back and attacked it with a green scourer, all off, job done, i have just refitted it and its working rightly again......

guess i'll be adding that to my annual camper maintainance chart now.

i only ever tasted it once...yuck. best used for coin cleaning...

Cola DOES do the same trick.......it'll also strip paint and has a million other household uses which are probably better than drinking it, but vodka's not the same neat........

You could have also have visited your local friendly chemist and purchased some citric acid - useful for descaling kettles and steam sterilisers amongst others.....
