I have an 86 Holdsworth camper with a DG engine. It sat on my drive for several months without being run but was working fine when I bought it at the end of last year. Its been running erratically, stalling and very lumpy at idle ( pierburg carb ) ever since I fired it up a couple of months ago.
Stuff that I've done.
New exhaust.
New fuel pump.
Fixed leaks in fuel tank ( three way connector on top of tank was in two pieces ).
New fuel filter.
Replaced all fuel lines and breather pipes ( all pretty rotten ).
New HT leads and plugs.
New air filter.
New vacuum hoses.
Checked coil resistance ( within the range specified in haynes ).
Good compression on all cylinders.
errr.. might have done some other things that I've forgotten
Haven't checked timing ( no timing light ) but it was running fine before it got laid up for a few months and I haven't touched the distributer other than to check the cap and rotor arm which look ok.
Would all this ( sorry for the long post ) suggest the carb needs reconditioning?
Today I was refilling the coolant system after repairing some leaks and when revving the engine at the carb and releasing the throttle the revs dropped suddenly and I could hear a loud whistling noise before it conked out. Air leak?
I'm quite new to all this stuff so any help gratefully received.
