wood panelling, soundproofing and insulating a panel van ..

Post by xpress »

hi there guys and girls.

i am trying to do some research, budget and get the parts together for adding wood boards to my panel van to carpet up and add insulation/soundproofing to.

i was wondering if there are any plans for cutting up boards for a panel van. i would like to board up the sides and the top, the roof of the van. on the outer part of the board, i was going to soundproof material it with padding and then on top of that, carpet these boards. on the other side, i was going to tape sealed plastic packets of insulation to the boards and then finish off with a clear plastic so i have been doing my research and reading ..

http://www.type2.com/library/heat/intrir3.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

_____

and i am thinking, cheapest place, and source for ..

* wood for the panels, and what is the agreed thickness and type of wood to use?

* soundproofing .. q-pads material?

* hardwearing speaker/carpet material that people use on the panels and floors of their van?

* insulation and how to pack it, maybe in plastic bags and seal it?

* plastic sheeting to make a vapour barrier and best way to put it on, with duct tape

Q. would pin tacks or with a tack gun not work because i guess that would make holes? should i make it airtight and use tape all round?
also, for screws and bolts what ones to use and how many would i need? i am trying to budget for this and get a list together in advance, any advice is very much appreciated!

i don't want much do i? lol. i was just wondering if there is an agreed way to approaching this.

thank you,

xpress

Hi you!!

now, if you wanna see soundproofing and insulation done the proper and most comprehensive way, have a look for Irishkeets thread on it - it may have been in campers.

He details all the stuff he used, and put in photos and instructions.

Basically, you don't want anything in there that can attract moisture!

Haven't got time to search now, but if you put insulation or soundproffing in, look for a thread by Keet. Oh yeah, boil the kettle or crack a tinny first - there be some reading.

oh - one last thing - the silver bubble wrap foil insulation was on special at homebase - £7 a roll rather than £15....dunno if it still is. :shock:

Take care

been in homebase, ply wood in there is not cheap! also there are standard sizes of board.

is hardboard a cheaper and viable option?
