Help please with Kamper Pop Top repair

Post by sabcully »

Hi Everyone,
My Autohomes Kamper Pop Top is slightly damaged, where the metal folds around the corners. I think it happened
when it was pulled down and the corner got stuck against the strud, forcing the thin metal coat to rip.
Is there an easy way to repair this? I think that it might just let in rain if I cannot get it back flush against the board.

Many thanks. :)

(sorry, only got the cleaning up photo to hand)

hello from a fellow frustrated autohomes pop-top owner!

not sure if i can help but there are a couple of people still supplying these roof parts. Autovan are one and charles and son in poole are another.

my roofs an older version and therefore the side sections are made out of plastic - i gave up worrying about the aesthetics too much and fixed a couple of sections with brown silicone sealant and flashband.

Thanx, samk.
Autovan replaced the roof on my van 5 years ago. It is in good shape, apart from that annoying rip in the metal sheet.
Did think about some non aesthetical pleasing repairs but don't think they would do anything to improve the situation. :?

Will have to try it out and see how bad it is in rainy weather and then get in touch with Autovan.

Thanks for the reply. :ok

out of interest, how much did the roof from Autovan cost? I've been looking at mine again today and it's worse that I thought!

The receipt I have is from the previous owner and included supply and fit of a ElectroluxRM 4200 fridge.
Don't have breakdown of just the roof supply and fit, unfortunately.

To supply and fit new elevating roof cap to motorhome complete with four new locking catches, six new gas strut brackets and one new Fiamma roof vent
plus the fridge came to:
Labour: 507
Material:800
VAT: 228

Total 1536, but as I said, that includes supply and fit of fridge.

Should imagine the roof was the bigger job.... :D

thanks for that - it's quite pricey but not too bad i suppose. I reckon the fridge would have only been £200 - £00 of the ttal have you been able to compare the new roof to the older, original ones?

Think i still might go for a different roof alltogether. i like the neater, flush look of the westy/reimo/devon pop tops

good luck with your fix!

I must admit that if i were to get a new roof for our Kamper , it would be a reimo or similar , not a replacement Autohomes .However , the main reason for this would be that our kids are pretty grown up, youngest is 11 , and security of all types is not quite the huge priority it was when they wuz wee . We had such good times when they were tiny , snug em up, read the story , off to sleep,(upstairs , with a net for safety ) then take the baby monitor out to the french bistro next to us and feel fairly relaxed . Such a sad shame the mccanns didn`t have a Kamper .The solid sides and the slip-locks always gave us a better feeling than the old canvas in our ancient Bedford .

The previous owner wanted to keep everything original and that is why he went for the exact replacement.
I got to say that it is really spacious and must be great with kids. I too would think about going for a different
design next time around though.
I have no idea what the original top would have been like. The original locking feature is now useless as the new
roof has got those four lockable clips all around. They themselves are not particularly well designed though.....!

:D
