DG engines 1.9

Post by necromonger »

can anyone help i have 2 DG 1.9 engines. 1st is pre 85 not sure of the actual year, the 2nd is an 87. both engines are DG 1.9 but are different. are the internals the same. I can see some things are different, oil pump, water pump, thermostate housing and etc... are these parts interchangeable. My engine is the 87 which needs rebuilding as water is getting in the heads. Brought the pre 85 to swap which needed a little work. WRONG 6 push rods bent, 4 tappets fallen apart, camshaft worn, case scored etc... I managed to get all the parts to fix apart from the camshaft, which i was told was no longer available. I find this hard to believe, and no one could tell me which other engines this cam was in, is there any way to cross reference engine part numbers? So i am stripping the 87 now to fix and reinstall, the heads have same part No. any advice would be great..

if you register here there is some helpfull info regarding part Numbers and common to both items.

Yes the plumbing changed on post 86 engines
fairly sure the camshaft is common to both but check the timing gear is the same. The oil pump is common to both too
