Head Gasket 1.6 jx

I have got my van back on saturday after an engine rebuild & newhead from local vw specialist & there appears to be dark grey sealant that has been squeezed out from the surface between the head gasket & the block but not the between the gasket & the head. I did not think any sealants should be used here. An comments how this should be greatly appreciated.

Personally I'd be more concerned if it was oil or water that was oozing out,,,my guess is the goo may be a component from the construction of the cylinder head gasket and is absolutely nothing to worry about.......
