Two little tips (for the Wiki maybe?)

Post by peasant »

It's raining, it's cold ...I'm bored  so here are two little hints to make life easier.

1) The dimmer for the dials

If your instruments are either too dark, too bright or intermittently lit up at night, here's something you can try.

The dimmer dial on the light switch is a real low tech affair. All you need to do is take out the light switch (simple), disconnect it and have a look through the side of it .
Then you will see this:

Now carefully clean the copper coil of any corossion (just on the contact surface), gently scraping it with a screwdriver blade wil do and gently, gently bend the little copper contact back up some more.

This may just restore your dimmer to full function and save you buying a new switch

2) Headrests

Those that have headrests on their R&R beds or anyone else that needs to take them out frequently will know the pain of undoing that little circlip that secures them in the highest postion. Getting it out isn't that simple and quite a time consuming and curse producing affair.

Take a look at the bars on your headrest. You will see little notches in it, these are where the circlip grips to hold the headrest at its different height postions. You will also see the the lowest notch is rather big but only one sided. This is where the circlip really digs in, so you can't pull out the headrest.

Simply filing the notch to 45 degrees on both sides will now enable you to just pull out the headrest without having to fiddle with the circlip. Easy as pie.

Very good, especially the tip about the headrests deserves a prize, BUT this weeks award has all ready been chosen,,,,,sorry.

The consolation prize is for you to submit your suggestion directly to the Wiki provided you are a fully paid up member who has attended at least (7} 80-90 club meets up and down the country or is only one of a handful of members who have met Corgettee when she is sober,,,,
