rattling from gear linkage (I think)

Post by samk »

Hi all, after a little advice. recently i've noticed a slight rattle when stationary or moving at very low speeds coming from what seems like to the left of the van or possible under the centre somewhere. I was driving tonight and realised that this rattle became quite significant when in 2nd gear and revving high. the noise stopped on a few occasions when I put my hand on the gear stick.

i'm off surfing in Cornwall for the bank holiday so i'm hoping this isnt the beginning of anything sinister - please help re-assure me!

My drive shaft totally went back over christmas and this was fixed so i'm hoping the problem isnt recurring there. perhaps there's simply play in the gear linkage? (fingers crossed this is the answer!) I'll get this properly looked into in the coming weeks but i'm hoping the van wil be well behaved from the 600 mile round trip from london.

thoughts, particularly re-assuring ones will be much apreciated

Check where the selector rods fasten to the gearbox ... perhaps this has become worn ? Simon Baxter (Brickwerks) sells a repair plate if it has.
