Leisure battery - not charging when on 240V

Post by Trilobyte_simon »

I hope someone can please help me.

1986 Westfalia camper syncro

My leisure battery is not charging when my camper is plugged into 240V.
The kit no longer 'hums' like it did when working.
The rest of the inside - electric heater, fridge etc still work fine.
The interior 240V plug socket works fine.

- Can anyone suggest what might have happened (or failed)?
- The van has been in for recent 12v electrics - is it possible that they have left a wire unconnected (or similar)?

Huge thanks - stuck in portugal and have no working knowledge of the van electrics.

Charger sound's like it's either disconnected (wire off or blown fuse) or it's fooked (deceased).

I dont mean to hyjack this thread, but mine never has, is it possible it is not supposed to in my case, it only charges whilst the engine is running, that is a wire from the battery through a charging unit thingy. I have 240v electrics but perhaps they have never been linked.

Aparently......again I have never studied the black box wiring....the charger on a Westy chargers both the Leisure and Starter batteries. I must admit to being sceptical about this as most camper charge circuits (when on 230V) only charge the Leisure. Like I say, I have seen it posted several times from highly respected members that this is the case.

Hi, away in the van last weekend , the guy with us in his westy had no charge going to his leisure bat on hook up, black box was cold!
Checked mine, the black box was hot. Will be looking at it this week, so if i find anything i'll let you know.
Btw, both batteries should get charged when on hook up!

Hi,

My battery charger wasnt working either when plugged into mains hookup. I unscrewed the 4 screws which hold the black plastic cover on and found that the fuse had blown? Works fine now i have replaced the fuse (replaced with 2A radio fuse).
