Can someone explain this...and this...please?

Hello,

could someone please explain the three switches to us? Only just bought Berty last weekend and still a lot to learn.
Can't see what the difference is between the first two (left to right) so we don't know which is mains and which is 12V.




Also, we tried the fridge on gas today and even though it sparked a few times we could not get it to work.
Cooker is working fine, any ideas what the problem might be?

Hi Sabcully, Don't know about the electrics but with the fridge, is it a 3 way model? if so, the two switches for 12v and 240v need to be in the off position or the gas will not work.

All 3 are mains switches, nothing to do with your 12 v circuitry, it's your fuse box from the power inlet, just like in your house.
The 2 switches on the left are your circuit breakers for seperate circuits for fridge (I would think) & sockets whilst on hook up, the one on the right is the main breaker / RCD, it overrides the 2 and the button at the top is to test the trip out,... Switch all 3 on, press the button & it should switch off again. Not very well explained I know, but hope it gives you an idea of what it should do.

Gas can & often does take a long time to get to a fridge, or the igniter / burner / thermocouple might be poorly, do a search for fridge problems, there's lots of info. Is the fridge's gas supply definately on, leaking hose to fridge? It will (probably) be a seperate tap to the cooker supply.

What conversion is it? Someone may be able to point you to the correct manual for all the different bits, or get Googling

You'll probably get better info after the weekend when all the lucky people are back from Oswestry

If you're unsure about anything Gas or electric related, please have it checked over by someone who really understands what they're doing, if there are no members nearby who can help you out try a local caravan service centre. Flexible gas hose has a limited usable life, there should be a date on it, and it's not expensive to replace, (again caravan dealers)

I've been advised to make sure you're level as the fridge can be fussy about running on gas if you're on a slant. A spirit level can help!

It does take a while for the gas to filter thru to the fridge, I generally give it 10 to 15 mins before trying the starter. I also hadn't realised that I had 2 gas isolator valves for fridge and hob which were both off.

Looks like an autohomes from the pop top in your pic but can't be sure - I have an autohomes pop.

Am not totally level on my drive so that might be adding to the problem.

It is an Autohomes conversion . I have worked out the two valves for the cooker and fridge but have not waited any great
length of time before trying to get the fridge going on gas so might give that a go, thanx, TC.

It is a three way fridge, and it was put in brand new four years ago and has never been used, apart from the initial test.

I am really paranoid when it comes to gas and stuff so am especially careful. Will seek advise if I can't get it working.
We changed the gas bottle earlier and as soon as there was a slight whiff of gas I ran a mile and let my poor fellow
sit there... ..............but of course everything was fine..

iirc, being level for the fridge is more of an issue once the flame is actually lit. If the van is on too much of an angle the flame doesn't hit enough of the part above it, which in turn creates the cooling effect. So if you've got the flame lit and a couple of hours later it's not getting cold inside the fridge, it might be that you're not level enough.

From what you've posted above, you've got a working gas supply (you can light your hob) and a spark for your fridge, so the issue sounds like gas supply to the fridge burner. Could be debris in the gas jet / nozzle round the back of the fridge or a gas pressure issue, as others have already suggested.

Before lighting our fridge, I always light both rings on the hob for a few seconds to help draw gas through the pipes. Then turn and hold-in the gas knob on the fridge for a couple of minutes to help increase gas pressure to the burner at the back of the fridge. Sometimes when I then try to light the fridge it goes with a "pop" and the flame lights briefly because too much gas pressure has built-up which blows the flame out again, in which case I turn the dial down to setting one or two and try again. Be sure to keep the knob pushed in when you're trying to build pressure up and when you're sparking it as well. You're head needs to be right down on the floor almost to see what the flame is doing (although it looks like you have a more modern fridge than we do).

Bit of a knack to it, but once you've done it a few times you'll be sorted.
