Exhaust bracket snapped??

Post by Matt The Hat »

Alright,

This bracket from my exhaust has just snapped today, been rattling a little bit for a while. Is this the correct set up? or should there be some kind of rubber hanger or flex joint? Anyone know where to get a replacement at all?

Cheers, Matt.

Would it be fair to guess this a 1.6 Diesel engined vehicle you are asking the questions about ? If it is I would hazard a guess that the bracket you have photographed is may be a copy of an original item that has possibly been made too short in length............

(Stress fracture and that).......

Well I can see the flexible rubber mount! :D
It's only a flat mild steel plate with five holes, just make another or get the local blacksmith to cut a piece out.

Thanks folks, I think i'm gonna try and knock up a new one, I'm sure its not too short because the silencer is nearly touching the rear panel, but as you say I dont wanna make a shorter one so as not to add stress. The driveway bellongs to my mate who's painting the van, i'l pass your comments on...

I would check the exhaust mounting rubber on the other side whilst you are under there if I were you - if that has disintegrated it might be the reason for the failure of the plate.
