This is abit of an ongoing saga.
Recently brought a 2.0 ltre a/c that had siezed. Gave it full strip down, service and managed to get it running again. However it is now peeing oil, apparently from the pushrod seals which i didnt replace as they seemed in good nick =/ (always the way!) I will investigate tomorrow, but is there any other possiblities for what could be leaking? Fuel pump is on nice and tight and cylinder head was torqued down properly. Rocker covers had new cork seals.
It probably is the pushrod seals, but wanted to see if there are any more serious possibilies (ie barrels!)
Cheers

Errrrrrr Dont think we need to answer any favourable or knolagable help to your post me-thinks you answered it yourself---------

You need to replace the pushrod seals with new ----- weakest point on a CU.(You did only put 3Ltr of oil in engine didnt you?)---------

Re: 2.0 litre a/c leaking oil badly!
I may have put around 3.5 litres in as per haynes? Too much>>?
Also dipstick is only showing bare minimum level, it is just a push fit into crankcase isnt it?

Re: 2.0 litre a/c leaking oil badly!
3.5 Ltr is what haynes does say. I owned a CU for 4 years and still have it but it is now a diesel. I used to have my oil level just under the full mark on the stick, and yes it is only a push fit, Only two places really oil normally pours out on a CU (1) is Rocker cover gaskets. (2) is the pushrod tube seals, These have to be in good order as any leak in that area oil will drop onto heat exchangers and eventually the acrid smell will be inside your van, comes through the heating system, as thats were the name evolves from. they are heat exchangers, Hot exhaust gasses pass through and warms up cold air on the outside then sends it into your heating, good engines the Aircooled CU but can be very thirsty.

Re: 2.0 litre a/c leaking oil badly!
As an update, managed to solve the leak!
Replaced pushrod seals and used liquid gasket on fuel pump connections, but the leak was still as bad. Looked at pushrods while running and leak was coming from above them (leak was in the region of cylinder 1, crankcase end). Ended up dropping engine out and stripping down to barrels/pistons. Turns out one of the metal gaskets between the barrel and crankcase had cracked and was in two parts. While only thin, was enough to cause pretty severe leak. Removed it, and the one from cylinder 3, then added a small layer of high temp liquid gasket and put it all back together and into van.
Result is no more leak! No longer peeing like a racehorse.
If your at yer wits end with oil leaks dont rule the cylinders/barrels out!
