starter moror removal

can anyone help me,i tried to remove starter today but failed.
first i undone botom bolt ,then top hex bolt loosened but would not come out.
it was so loose i could turn with fingers but would not come out.?
we are ment to be going away on our first camping trip of the year on friday.

This might help. If its an Aircooled then I think it is in the engine bay

albert.they are all in the engine bay.as the engine on these vans happens to be there.

and his van is an auto as it says in his signature

i suggest you try tapping the starter with a rubber mallet a few times.one bolt is a lot longer than the other iirc.

If its an Aircooled then I think it is in the engine bay
