Occasional Misfire

Post by Tug »

Hi All.

Well at long last the Yellow machine has passed its MOT. It failed at first on Emissions..Headlights out of aim and a tiny hole above the spare wheel..
All was fixed and it was retested on the same day...with help from the nationwide fitter who balanced my carbs to get it through the emissions..thankyou..

However their apears to be an intermittent misfire and sometimes it will start to run on 3 if it is left to tick over....
Any ideas.....leads...coil.....

:?:
Life is not a rehearsal...Live life to the max....Buy a Aircooled VW and get covered in Rust and Oil.......But we all love it really....!!

What Engine?????????????????
well you say balanced carbs as in twin? is it 2Ltr.CU. or 1.6Ltr.CT, either engine Aircold these engines dont like it if its taking extra air in, you need to check all vacum hoses for leaks, only firing on three sound like a high tension lead breaking down when hot, or a spark plug ,Fitter would not have balanced your carbs he would have only altered the air to mixture screw on carb to make it run leaner to get it through emmissions test. when did you last change all plug leads and plugs, you need to go back to basics remove plugs 1 at a time see which is not firing will tell by color of plug tip which is faulty 1. Replace plug or lead then try running c what happens, come back to this thread and report findings then we can give some more help if needed.----------- :ok

Engine is a 2.0 cu Air cooled.

Discovered that left hand carb was sucking air between the sandwich plate beneath it..Bolts tighted up a couple of turns....fingers crossed it has been resolved.

Thanks for you advice.
