oil leak 1.9tdi m sump gasket
I have a 1.9 tdi crewcab which has developed an oil leak around the sump gasket just below the dispick. my question is , can I drop the sump to fit a new sump gasket with the engine in situ, or is it an engine out job. I have been reading through all the posts on this excellent forum but I,m unsure on this one. can someone advise me please

Ray, If you haven't all ready done this : clean off any excess oil residue in that area and re check it closely rather than assuming the gasket is at fault.....more often than not it is something much less involving than you expect.......

Very good idvice indeed Fritz - i was at my whits end having changed my sump gasket three times and added all kinds of sealant on my old MG until my Dad pointed out it was a leak above the sump and not the gasket itself.....
However, yes, the sump can be removed in situ.
You will probably need some new tools - like long 6mm allen key (one's that can be put in at an angle are excellent) or a very small ratchet with extension bar (the one smaller than 3/8" i think).

Re: oil leak 1.9tdi m sump gasket
many thanks , yes I have cleaned it up and it does look like its coming from the sump gasket. I just wasnt sure if it could be done in situ, after searching and reading other post on sumps etc I was doubtful because of the bolts mentioned into the clutch housing, thats what confused me...I,m a newby to the T25 but had a bay window for years before. Thanks for all advice.

As it is a TDI it depends on whot fly wheel has been used as to weather you can do it with the gearbox in place or not.
If a tdi flywheel has been used then you need to remove the gearbox then remove fly wheel to get to back sump bolts.
