Are brake pads availabel from Halfords

Post by hightower »

Quick question before i go and order some from just kampers.

Are brake pads available for an 84 with Teves calipers from Halfords???

Just been trying to work my caliper pistons back into shape as i had drivers side front binding at the weekend, i seem to have that freed up ok for now and the pads are in good shape, however the same couldnt be said for the passenger side (which i didnt think there was a problem with but thought i would take a look while i had it on axle stands), the inner piston moved back easily but the outer piston was pretty seized and took a big chisel and large hammer to move it back. When i took the pads out they had a good amount of brake material left but it was very crumbley, even just rubbing with my finger (never seen pads go like that in all my years of working on my cars) the material just fell away.

God knows how the van was actually stopping at the weekend, typical i find this out now when we are due to go away at easter. I may need to replace the calipers yet if they are still sticking

Crumbling brake pad material means that the pads have severely overheated at some stage, probably because of the siezed pistons.
Dunno about Halfords, can get pads from Partco.

I wouldn't trust halfords for anything mechanical, especially for a 20yr old vehicle. Try GSF or another proper motor factors
