Viking Roof owners help please!

Post by festivalgirl73 »

Hello, I need a bit of advice from anyone with a viking roof, you are all going to think I'm mad but I have had the van for a couple of weeks now and have not yet attempted to get the roof up (have been distracted by lots of other problems to sort out with it! :( ) so I now want to have a go at getting the roof up but just wondered if there is knack or a special way of doing it, it seems remarkably heavy and obviously its very high, so do I need a to be on a step ladder in the van (I'm only 5ft2")and push up whilst someone else is lifting the handles on the outside or what?? I don't want to muck it up or injure myself in the process!
Any advice greatly appreciated, I'm such a novice! :lol:

Hi.
It sounds like you may need new gas struts, it should just pop up with a good push, i know they are heavy lids but not so heavy that you cant lift them. Gas struts is the answer!

good luck.

Yep, agree with Jaydog, sounds like you need new gas struts. We had to replace ours because the roof was so heavy to lift. You can get them from here: http://www.campershop.co.uk/roof-parts.htm#struts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Good luck

that said...I can't do mine on my own...usually get a fella to do it for me....and yes, something to stand on will help no end.

ours came with what looks like a shovel with the end cut off and a piece of guttering screwed on top.

so holding onto the shovel handle you place the guttering under the lip of the roof and push. the previous owner was a little smaller than I. works a treat.

Ours also has the gas struts, so even my wife at 5' can now do it alone :D whilst i watch sat comfortably with a beer in my hand :D
