Fridge Not Very Cool

Post by pockets »

Right folks done plenty of searches on the forum,

My RM212F fridge wasn't working, the ignitor packed up so I pulled the fridge out to work on it and weirdly it just started working again. I've had the fridge on electric and gas this afternoon and can see the pilot light when on gas so its lighting ok but just doesn't seem to get cool. The freezer compartment has the tiniest skim of frost on it but the main frige didn't, I put a small bottle of water in there to see if it was actually cooling and it didn't feel cold nor when it was on electricity for a couple of hours, another post suggests about an hour to feel it.

My main point really is about the turning upside down trick, is that only for when the fridge won't light or can it improve a fridge that already lights? would it be worth me turing it upside down?

Hi,

I had the same problem with mine. I spoke to a Gas fitter who works at the local camp site. He explained that the best thing to do is to run it on 240v first (Providing it is a 3 way fridge) then switch it to 12v for driving and then light the gas....it worked for mine. Fridge was still very cold when I reached Newquay.

I also turned mine upside down over night.....Give it as go. Might be worth Wax oiling behind the fridge also as you get condensation dripping and this can rot the panels. Mine thankfully was sound but I did it anyway..
Be sure to check the gas pipes while it is out.....You dont want an indoor batbecue or gas leaking.....

Oh also it will take a few hours to cool on 240v.....I left mine all day and to be fair it was cold....

Good Luck.
Life is not a rehearsal...Live life to the max....Buy a Aircooled VW and get covered in Rust and Oil.......But we all love it really....!!

Cheers Tug :ok

Just took it out to leave upside down overnight-alot easier than I thought it would be and I'll try it again tommorrow. Just found a receipt in the instruction manual for a fridge service three years ago so it was ok then although anything can happen in three years I guess.

Panels behind look sound, is it just a case of re-connecting the gas unions or should I use PTFE tape on the threads?

I realise now that this really ought to have been in the camper section

I think after you've had it upside down for a day/night you have to leave it standing the right way up for approximately the same amount of time before using it again. The 'goo' in it has to run back to the bottom again apparently..............

Really? didn't know that, cheers. I thought is was just so the refridgerant disolves some crytals that had formed on the wotsit, mind you you're supposed to let your fridge at home settle if its been moved so you might well have a point there.

Your camper fridge is a thermal fridge with emonia but the reason your house hold fridge has to settle before use is in the motor it has oil and when mixed with gas it blocks the dryer which a thermal fridge does'nt have! So when a termal fridge gets blocked turn it upside down but a normal fridge you have to cut out the dryer and regas!

Gas.....Remove and clean the jet.
Remember to put the burner on the right way round ie holes upwards.
also check the door is seating properly as if its gettin frost on the heat exchanger it means it is working, if not efficiently.
240v could be a dodgy electrode about £35. google Ashbridge domestic.

I have the Electrolux installation and care leaflets and the tipping upside down procedure is an approved method if you have any worries. Also to run on 240v for a few hours if you have it, otherwise gas first and then go electric when you drive the van.
