smoking from breather

Post by buggycal »

I am getting smoke coming from the breather at the top of the engine, i am talking a lot of smoke, it is a 2l cu Aircooled motor and hasn't run for a couple of years. i personally suspect worn piston rings but if anyone else has any ideas or has come across this before i would like to hear before i take engine out. Engine appears to be running fine apart from that.

Yes that sounds like blow by to me. But if it has been standing I guess the ring/s may be a bit stuck. I wonder if it is worth taking it out one dark night and chucking an egg cup full of Redex or similar down the carb/s with a big fist full of throttle. Wishful thinking but you never know
