Wadda you mean,,,,,,all the motors I have ever run have needed the 3 feet technique to em running during warm up........ :D

In fact on the day I thought I could get through our most trecherous (slippery) roundabout in my Moggy van using Left foot braking, I managed on the exit from the roundabout to do a complete 360 spin without touching a kerb ,,,,,,,,,,a record which I still hold to this very day,,,,,,,everyone else who has had a miss forutune at the said roundabout has either rolled at worst or just kerbed a rim or 2 at least.....

Anyway, as with our Aircooled VW I got the best out of ours by changing all the vacc hosses for some nice new snug fitting stuff c/o Henry Furd and then securing every other hose on the engine.

Air leaks tend to send everything up the wall on an A/C VW.....

Had a few of these engines with worn throttle flaps (easily fixed though) and that'll give you impossible idling with so much air leakage (or rather too much air going in at idle).

Try spraying a load of WD40 around throttle flap areas when its running and if the speed picks up, theres your answer. Cutting out coming up to junctions can also be that or a weak mixture generally.

scrap the solexes they are nothing but trouble & actualy resrict the engines true potential :ok

I think the opposite. If the Solexes are worn then I think they should be professionally rebuilt by a reputable carburetor rebuilder (eg. Gower and Lee, Gas Sure, etc.).
