Gas tank pressure reief valve?

Post by lhd »

I filled up my Westy gas tank about a week ago and since then I have had a smell of gas inside and around the van.
I have found the leak to be coming from the pressure relief valve which has a red plastic bung in it.
It is leaking intermittently and seems to be when its a warm day.

when I filled it up the dials on the pump stopped rather than going up slower till it stopped if you know what I mean.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Is this just a case of its full and the warming temperatures are causeing the gas vapor to expand and open the valve, and should I just bleed some gas from the tank via the cooker?
Obvioulsy gas is dangerous so I have to be careful.
many thanks Rob.

I was under the van on a warm day - and heard the valve releasing - got out quick - phoned Steve Gasure - calmed down and got on with it. It appeared to be as you describe - changing temps - expansion - safety valve working well - bit whiffy though..

We had the same after filling up this week (and it has gotten much warmer.)

How much did you fill it Rob ? You're supposed to stop at 80% ... IIRC the westy tank doesn't have the same shut off as the terroidals :| You'll have to cook a meal in't bus or put the fridge on to drop the pressure a bit
