help needed !!!

Hi the oil leaks on my van are getting beyond a joke now, one from the end of the dip stick, sump plug and oil coming from the manifold where it meets the block. Its breathing heavy too and smokes under load. The level on the dipstick always reads ok so i dont know. My mate is a mechanic said that it looks like the rings need doin, this may be a reason the preasure is forcing the oil out.

I know its had an engine change to a 1.6 diesel from a golf but im not sure what engine it actually is. All i know it is at a 50 degree angle. This is my first T25 and i love it but it is beginning to p**s me off now. Shall i get a new engine or get my mate to do the rings, said it would cost no more than 300 quid to do. Please can anyone give me advise as a thought came across me to sell the van, i came back round when i head butted the wall.

If your mate is confident enough to do this job then go for it,, with luck it will last long enough for you to get some pleasure out of the van rather than being fed up with it as it is....
