diff locks without lever pulled

Post by tk76 »

Hi there. Last November I bought a red syncro off Russel at Syncronutz. I drove it back through Europe to Greece then put it on a ferry to Cyprus where I live. Around December the gearbox started playing up so I had to take it down. The crown and pinion were totally chewed up inside and it needed a complete rebuild. So I packed it up and send it to the UK. Thankfully it was still under warranty and was fixed and sent back in no time. So I got the box back and its been refitted and today I went to pick it up. While driving away from the mechanics I noticed the rear wheels were locking while going round bends, then suddenly the light came on indicating that the lock had engaged without me having pulled the lever. So I stopped and pulled it in and out again but it did nothing to disengage it. I drove it back to the shop slowly and its sitting there now again :( Has anyone ever had this happen? And what's the potential damage after having driven it with the rear lock engaged for about 1 km?

sounds like the guy put the vacuum pipes on back to front on the diff lock element, start the car, jack both rear wheels off the ground spin 1,if the rear wheels spin the same direction then its locked if they spin diferent ways there unlocked, push the rear diff lock switch in then put the pipes on the element untill they spin diferent ways, youve not done it any favours driving with it locked but there fairly tough so if nothing went bang chances are its survived,cj.
bought some real off roaders!!!!!!!

I did suggest that's why the box went bang in the first place being driven with lock on, if you break it again I won't be fixing it
