Elevating roof toggles

Post by niffy »

Anyone got any view on the JK toggles? I was advised not to use them as the stretch too much/wear? Who knows what we have got at the moment - they do keep the thing down, but they fall apart when you undo them and gettting harder to put back together!
It would be be good not to be grovelling around in the grass looking for bits of metal when it pitch black, pouring with rain and blowing a gale!! (lack of confidence in hinges leading me to get one seven year old out the roof bed and in with me to batten down the hatches at 2am)

Thanks

Hi,
I fitted some identical ones to the ones listed by JK but i think they're actually bonnet catches and the rubber started splitting under the tension of the fastened roof almost straight away.Found them really unsuitable for the job but guess some will say they've used em no probs!I bought some all metal toggle/box fasteners i think they're called.Mine are just mild uncoated steel and looked a little rusty after a few months in the rain but noticed in my local homebase recently they do them in stainless steel, far better bet i reckon .Alternatively someone else had posted a link to a company supplying exact replacements quite recently in the tech questions section i think.Guess it depends on what conversion/roof you have fitted.

Thanks for that - I did try the link from the tech section, but wasn't quite sure what I'd need - JK seemed the simple option! I will try and fix the ones I've got which are strong. There must be a way of stopping them falling apart and they certainly have lasted better than 2 months!
