if this exceeds the spec what are the likely consequences?
spec is 0.7mm..
.. I have 0.73mm
on one journal, the rest are well in.

FM thats a good question........
Any road as you would imagine if the float was excessive you would end up with a condition called 'Diagonal Skirt Contact', which basically leaves the piston with a diagonal polished section. Could also make the engine noisey ( similar to piston slap) and in some cases burn oil .
But it would have to be well worn or have loads of end float to reach this condition.
