Re: Intermittent problem
For some bizarre reason I think I had a similar problem and the lights operated on a seperate fuse, not sure this was normal but threw me for ages, I didnt think of checking the fuses as the other side was working fine and assumed they were on the same fuse. Long shot I know!
Have you tried the earthing point on the n/s inner a post behind the glove box?

Re: Intermittent problem
get a multimeter on the wire into the back light pod and get someone to press the brake over and over and see if theres a break in the power if not it must be in the light unit
the word 'pissing' is safe

Re: Intermittent problem
Try popping the front off the black box on the LHS of the engine bay where there are about 4 multiconnectors...wiggle em about and see what happens.
Had a rear light not working intermittantly and it was a mucky connector in there....Hope this helps!

Re: Intermittent problem
Pep....check your fuses! As above, mine had a seperate fuse for each side. One side out, but when we transposed the bulbs, the apparently furbarred bulb worked in the other side.

Re: Intermittent problem
check for damp in fuse box due to leaky windscreen,a quick blast with wd40 type stuff and a pulling the relevant fuses may help ,as someone said to me when i had a similar problem "keep it simple, and you will find it"(eventually)
