Just a quickie.... re my horn... or lack of it!

I've a 1981 2ltr Aircooled couple months ago my horn packed up got told it was the middle bit or my steering wheel as it no longer pumps its solid however to get thru the MOT it was urgent so the guy fitted a quick flick swtich on the side of the colum however few weeks later get carved up go to flick me switch and NOTHING! 2 horns in matter of months! Go figure! Any idea's befor ei ask the guy to have another look just be cheaper for me to direct him straight to the problem! Also can you buy just the middle bit of the old steering wheel or do i have to get the hole lot as i would prefer it there than on the side.

hi i got one from main dealer a year ago or so they are the same as the golf or something so may still have in stock
