How low can i really go???

Post by holeydub on 4wheels »

Hi All,

Not sure how low mine is at the mo as it was lowered when i bought it... think its around the 40mm mark but not 100%

Anyways gonna be running 9x15 standard look steels on the rear with 225/60/15 rubber and hopefully 5.5x15 fuch replicas on the front with 195/55/15 rubber (i think roughly ;)) and im looking to go as low as possible without major modification just basically fitting springs and shocks... oh its an early 81 model

Does anyone know how low i can go with it but i do like the slammed look but need it to be driveable as its also gonna be my daily...

Any help pics, links etc would be a great help :ok

what's the et on the fuchs you're planning on running? 'cause i think it might be too low for a t3 and will cause excessive bearing wear especially as you're planning to run it as a daily?
avo do a 70mm spring which is fairly low. you used to be able to get 100mm from somewhere but i don't think you can still get 'em.
70mm is pretty much on the limit as the adjustment runs out for the camber anyway.

there is only one fuchs wheel with an acceptable et for a wegde.

by the time you fit adaptors on the et is unacceptable.

the mws copies are real bad bits of kit too.......

oh yeah, and if you're going to run 195 55 r15 tyres on the front your speedo will be way out as they're getting on for 10% smaller than stock...

the fuchs im looking at are the other copies that SSP sell not the MWS ones...So would you say that its probably best to run standard steels on the front intead of these fuch copies?? ideally i want to run the 9 inch wide steels on the rear with nice big wide tyres i was going for the standards on the front but got offered a "pooh" hot deal on the fake fuchs...

what should i do for the best??? :???:

depends on the offset of the fuchs... the machine7 fuchs replicas are et45 so would be ok on a t3 with 10-15mm spacers - not sure what et the ssp ones are as i can't get on their website at the mo.

9" steel rears? i guess you're planning on getting some steels banded then? i'd check they are weight rated to use on a van after being welded...

banding is a process used on steel rims to widen them - popular with the golf/caddy scene
rims are cut in half around the circumference and a strip of steel welded in to widen them the desired amount.

i wasn't aware that vw made a 9" wide steel rim. do you know what vehicle they're originally from...?

not sure what they were originally off but are definatly late bay to early wedge due to the centre hole shape...

i doubt a nine inch wide wheel will allow the slider to pass.

i posted on b-y to see if anybody knew of their origins...
when you get them and remove the tyres you should be able to tell right away if they've been altered / welded.
if they do turn out to be banded or have centres from vw wheels welded into different rims, and especially as you don't know who's modified them, i'd definitely avoid fitting them.

still, you only paid £28 so worth a look! i probably would have bought them at that price just out of curiosity!

I run 195 65 15's on mine and the speedo is spot on and the difference bettwenn 65's and 55's is 1.96 cm so your speedo will still be fine!!!
