air vent cooling fan... thingy!!

Post by freej »

...the fan behind the air filter box seems to have taken to generaly staying on sometimes and other times goes off ok or doesnt even come on at all. i think a couple of times it has started to run the battery down to the point where i have had to jump the van off my leisure battery. i have dis-connected the fan this morning just to turn it off manually, will this cause a problem short term and does anyone know how to get it sorted???
any advice greatly appreciated.
the van is an '89 JX 1.6 td syncro. cheers, Ben.

Not a problem short term... it cools the centre bearing of the turbo during after shutdown and is controlled by an engine temp sensor and relay in the control box at the front lhs of engine bay... which system also conmtrols the aux. electrical water pump..

Just allow the engine to idle for a minute or two if you have stopped after a hard run, if you have just been tottling about then no-change. let it idle of ra few secnds and then switch off.

It might be the relay sticking/malfunctioning it should turn off after a minute or two, depending on temperature

Just found this 'old' post through a search.

My fan has not been operating and, in any case, does not have the pipework along the side of the engine to the turbo.

How much difference do they make? Is it work reconstructing this sytem?
thanks
