Clutch Slave Cylinder - Support Strap ?

Post by Yozza »

Hello,
This one has been bugging me for a while, so it's time to 'post the issue' on the forum...

I have a '88 2.1i DJ, however, at some stage (before I got the van) the gearbox bailed out and was replaced by a DW (I assume the current owner couldn't get hold of the correct box?)

I've been under the van many times and recently realised that there isn't the flat bar strap mounted on the side of the gearbox to give the slave cylinder additional support. I've seen this strap in many manuals, pics, docs, etc. and wondered if the strap should be fitted to all boxes or just the ones with the bigger engines (stronger clutches)???

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. If it turns out I do need one, has anyone got a spare who is going to Dubfreeze?

yes you need it it helps stop the slave bracket flobbing about and breaking the collar on the case and then flobbing about more, they are about £3 new from VW still available, I have lots of used ones in stock too, but no spare diesel ones, often the case M8 will need a timeset too due to corrossion.
