ive had a dicky starter since i had the van,i had it to bits and back together and it would be ok for a while then play up again.i just swapped the engine over to a 1y and since then ive had problems again.just no sound at all when turning the key.so i thought i would see if it was a bad earth and clipped a jump lead onto the neg on the battery and the other end onto the engine...no luck..so moved it to the bell housing on the gear box..no luck then i held it onto the top of the solenoid..hey presto it fired up straight away...so i tried it from the body work to the solenoid and it worked again.so the bad connection must have been from the starter to the bell housing...took the starter off and sand papered the bit that joins to the gear box and also the gear box to starter face, put it back together and wooohooo jobs a good one.
i suppose these vans are getting old now and the alloy is starting to furr up abit so a bit of a clean and away you go.
if your having problems try this first with the jump lead thing
