Post by Snag20 »

Now that the weathers getting better ( ????? ) its time for me to consider fitting my rear hinge westy pop top onto my tin top caravelle.

Cutting hole and making frame no problem,

But,

my main concearn is where to drill the rear of the metal roof for the hinges to bolt onto ?

does any body have any official dimensions or possibly a template for this ??

much appreciated

Not an answer i'm afraid, just another question - what is this frame you mention? i just bolted mine straight through the roof (putting roof in situ and marking where to drill) and then used some bits of angle iron to give me a flat surface underneath to tighten the nuts to. Did Tubbs do right?

sorry for the confusion mr Rainman.

The frame is to edge and strengthen the hole I am to cut, and to attach the headlinning to.

I too will be bolting the pop top straight onto the roof, only prob is when the pop top is down cant see the hinges as there inside the pop top.

where about in gloucs are you ?

I'm in Cheltenham, where are you? It was a while ago when i put mine on and it was a real bodge (like everything else I've done - but it works!), I'm trying to remember how I marked the holes and I think maybe it was something like marking the edges of the hinge base to show where holes are and then marking where they meet the van roof. Take pop-top off again, continue the line of the marks made and drill where they meet, or something - would that work?
I think mine probably does need some kind of strengthening frame and I've seen it mentioned elsewhere, that's why i asked.

Hello, I'm new on here...just bought a Caravelle and a Westfalia rear hinged elevating roof. I'm trying to find information on fitting it, i.e. hole size, hinge positions etc. Also I've not collected the roof yet so can anyone tell me what should be included. Cheers :)
