Leaky Hi Top (drips at each side windcreen)

Post by Fingle »

Hi,

Have a hitop, but recenty noticed water leaking from the top corners of the cab, above the windscreen. Hasnt been driven really so its water that must be draing down from somewhere, rather than it being forced up and under the seal where the roof meets the roof.

Anyone had a similar thing happen. What was the solution? Im thinking it may be the skylight seal

We had a similar problem and it was T'Onion who shed some light on it for us. The gutters on the side of our van were full of sealant / glue from Autosleeper sticking the hi-top on. Possibly due to its age, the sealant had started soaking-up water like a sponge (or the rain had started getting down the sides of the sealant and underneath it), causing it to get under the edge of the hi-top and pee down on me when driving, whenever the weight of the van was shifted in the direction of front o/s.

If your gutters are full of sealant, after its been raining go to one end of the gutter and press down on the sealant and see if water squeezes out. Ours has been ok since I raked all the sealant out and replaced it with copious amounts of Tigerseal.

Also worth checking the rubber seal that runs across front and back of the van, covering the joint between van and hi-top, for any gaps, splits, moss etc.

Looking for: window apertures for side windows, at the back of the van

I would have a good look at the rubbers round your high top windows.
NO PIES CAKES OR BEER LEFT IN THIS VAN OVERNIGHT.

Yeah it is looking a bit ropey to be honest. I think I may rip it ll off and redo it anyway, as it looks shabby. Hopefully kill 2 birds with one stone

What do you think.....white or black sealant.

Also....how much "bonding" of the roof to the hitop does this do? Is it held on with anything else ?

Hi,

I've also got this issue, does anyone know what other preparation is required after stripping out the old sealant from the guttering ? Ive also got leaky side windows in the hightop which I guess need the rubbers replacing.
