Help before i set fire to it.
Help before i set fire and claim on the insurance.
Van starts fine in all weathers warms up choke come off warms up some more
if its cold say below 5 outside all is well
if it is warm say above 10 all is well
if between 5 and 10 it warms up but as it reaches normal running temp you loss power until it dies it feels as if it's over fuelling. if you rev it to over 3500 it clears itself but then dies as it drops back down.
if you switch off wait or pump the pedal it stars and runs fine some times or you may have to repeat this process.
Things I have done,
striped and cleaned carb
cleaned all springs and made sure they don't stick.
sucked all vacuums all hold pressure.
replaced air filter
replace part enrichment unit (second hand)
checked choke flap is fully open when the problem is there.
when choke is on the stop screw is on the second step and runs a 2000rpm until pedal is pressed.
the manifold heater works on the engine temp switch
the heater on the auto choke works.
Any ideas
could it be a inlet valve sticking, I run it on magetec oil.
condensation on the electrics although I have look and cant see any and it does feel a fuel problem.

Re: Help before i set fire to it.
Just a quick question while we are having think about your problem :
Have you had the (Fuel) mixture checked on a proper 4 gas anyliser since having the carb in bits ?

i did not dare touch that screw when striped and cleaned the carb.
but i have noticed that the spark-plugs look if the mixture is lean rather than rich under normal running.
Had a quote for a proper rebuild and check of the carb of £135 not to bad but its the 3-week turn around that puts me off.

Sounds like the carb is freezing. Have you got the pre heater pipes connected to the air filter and check the manifold hedgehog heater is working, thick red wire going to the manifold Should have 12volts going to it and check it's drawing amps.

Re: Help before i set fire to it.
manifold heater working and getting hot
Air filter hot air hose is in the area of the exhaust manifold but not attached as were it should attach has rusted out, would it make that much difference.

Re: Help before i set fire to it.
Could do as the ducting ensures it picks up only hot air from the exhaust system. there is also a vacume thermostat in the air filter to work the diverter flap make sure there is suction through the thermostat with a cold engine and the diverter flap lifts when you suck on it. (no comments please)

Re: Help before i set fire to it.
the flap moves when you suck (titter titter)
is there a way of testing the thermostat

Re: Help before i set fire to it.
You should be able to blow or suck through it when its cold. You could bypass it by joining the pipes together and see if that makes a difference.

Re: Help before i set fire to it.
i doubt it has anything to do with the airintake from the exhaust, it makes no difference , mine hasnt got it, has never had.
I would be looking at the choke or the jets, if you are sure the carb heater is working

Re: Help before i set fire to it.
Do you mean the Throttle body heater the bit on the end of the spindle with a wire coming of it.
have 12 volts but not sure if this works i could not feel much heat coming of it
Any idea where i could get a new one
