New Front Panel?

Post by DubLuv »

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, and fairly new to T25s.
Last year I bought a 1981 Devon Moonraker pop top, 1.6Ltr air cooled. Inside is fine and mechanically it runs and is ok. The issue I have is whether I should replace the front panel or not?

It suffers, as a lot do, of the rust on the front bumper valance. I have seen on the wiki that you can get a replacement from ahschofield.co.uk, but the other issue is the gapping hole I have on the lower left corner of the windscreen, plus a bit of rust around the whole of the screen. Because of the gap water builds up in the footwell, and there is a bit of rust on the inside of the dash.

I'm considering buying another van to borrow parts from and was wondering how easy it would be to take the front panel from this van and put it on the devon? I have a friend who is a mechanic who is going to ask round for someone to do some private work, but would like to get some advice from someone with a bit of experience on the T25s first. The donor van I'm looking to get is a 83 transporter 1.9, but it looks like a water cooled, would that be an issue at all?

Thanks

Those two parts are only going to cost about £100. The front panel has to be perfect as any slight imperfection will distort the seal and you will be back to sqaure one.

I agree with Peps seeing that I've been there and done that in the last few months.

Good luck with the job

I am sure VW still sell the upper front panel part 252-805-035 if I'm not mistaken (yes they do £51.87+vat)
