Syncros in the Dakar

Post by caveman »

I have seen the odd glimpse of a syncro or 2 in past Dakar footage, but i was wondering 2 or 3 things. What was the best ever finishing spot and is there any footage out there in the actual race. It seems like all the car entries are factory or factory supported ,with few if any real independents this year. If i was independently wealthy i would definitely run one for the fun of it.

The main competitor with T3's and a few LT 4x4's was Peter Seikel in the late 80's early 90's.
Dont know if he did any of the driving though.

If you look under the for sale section and then under Karl's post you will see probabley one of the best action syncro photos out there.
As far i am aware that is one of Seikles vans.

Hey Boltze, thanks . Lots of cool old Dakar pics and info to look at over the next few days. What kind of lunatic takes a vespa in a race across africa . The Rolls looks cool. I seem to remember a few years ago someone entered a lifted Jag sedan. Even made into the first few stages. can you tell we lack coverage over here. All we got this year was endless footage of Robby Gordan and Mark Miller because they are yanks.

I think one candidate for the Dakar is Bernd Jaegers Rallye syncro:
