not according to the manual on the wiki

and it suggests you light the match first and turn the gas full on.

The bit that looks like it should release a spark is in fact a thermocouple. You have to turn the ring on by pressing and turning the knob and lighting with a match/lighter while still pressing on the knob. You have to keep the knob pressed for a few seconds after it's lit so the thermocouple heats up else when you release the knob the gas will be cut off to that ring. It's a safety feature.

Yes I wish I had a Flame Failure Device on mine. A boiled over saucepann could result in the flame being extinguished and filling the van with gas! Got one on the fridge though but I am still a bit uncomfortable sleeping withthe fridge running even then. I got so paranoid that I painted bold white lines on the Hob knobs so I could see if they were on even from the ouside of the van through the door window.

Gas alarm is a good idea if you're worried.

CovKid - which one do you use? I bought two carbon monoxide alarms....only to get home to find that they state for home insallation ONLY - not caravans. The sensor has to be some distance from the source of the gas.....so where do I get ones for the van from?

thanks
