Has anyone got any ideas of how to do it cheap or can i get any sort of roof lining from a breakers. Iv read a post on using 6 mill ply then just carpet over that.

I did a Transit roof many years ago; stuck thick kingspan between the ribs and then used hard board to cover it all and stuck carpet onto that. It looked pretty good and was very warm, no condensation etc. Hardboard was a lot cheaper than ply and easier to get a good fit. Once the carpet's on you don't see it any way.

Have fun

It's a foam type insulation board with silver foil facing, they use it in the building trade, i's not cheap but it is very good. If you know anyone in the building trade they might be able to "help"? I just stuck it on the panels with some Gripfill and it's easy to cut with a bread knife too !

:ok

Can't see why not, I did the whole van the same method and ran it for a good 2 years or so before getting rid. Was warm enough to camp in Cornwall in February. Check out other insulation & sound deadening topics / wiki etc for other ideas if you're going to strip it all out - might as well do it properly and it gives you a chance to clean & rustproof everything too.
These things always start out as a short job.........

John did a similar thing...

we put wood battens the length of the van, insulation in, then covered an 8x4 or thereabouts sheet of hardboard in the purple material he wanted to use....then screwed the hardboard to the wooden battens.

Hope this helps
