Hi all,
I need to tow my van on a trailor to its new home as i'm moving, (about 200miles) the van will be packed up with all the parts I have collected over the years
I have seen a 4 wheel trailor for hire at 'hss hire', its payload is 1500kg is this going to be suitable? i cant seem to find the weight of the van anywhere.
I also intend to buy a discovery tdi to do the towing
any advice would be much appriciated
simon

dont quote me but i think you will be over the payload of the trailer i am sure that the westfalia is about 1700kg plus parts you may be looking at near 1800kg.
i would still tow it though as all things testd are done so above there stated safe working loads, take it steady and avoid bmps!!

you ll want a 3 ton ivor williams twin axle and id get a jap rather than a discovery. A heavy load behind a disco and it feels very uncomfortable. dont try to tow with a van as you then come under tacho laws (over 3.5 tons). I think willhire hire a recovery truck
Im over the hill but not down the hill yet!

when you do get that trailer, whichever one, dont make the mistake most make, and park the van on it forwards, which puts the engine at the back of the trailer. Far better to reverse the van on, and have the engine at the front, adding to the nose weight, and keeping within the axle weights of the trailer.

Might be worth look at a vehicle movement specialist. Could just be easier to have it loaded onto a flatbed. There are quite a lot out there chasing a small market and there rates can be quite competitive.

Re: Need to tow my van, help needed
I just got a 3 and a 1/2 hour tow from a local company who used a disco and trailer and were given £120 cash for the job - damn site cheaper than hiring and took all the responsibility off my shoulders. I found the company by typing in to a google search something like vehicle movement spealists? or something. Then got quotes and played one against another. Seems like the only way to have got the price to what it was though.
