Whats a dead engine worth?

Post by Taipan »

HI All
I have a 2.0l air cool engine that went rattly and lost power. I've put another engine in now and am going to sell the old one. Any ideas on what engines suitable for rebuilds are worth?
Many thanks

Personally I wouldn't venture much past £50. A rebuild is a rebuild. Perhaps worth more with ancilleries.

Hi Em

Funnily enough I've emailed them to see if they'd be interested. When you say if I need some work done, do you think would they rather exchange labour for an engine than cash? That'd be handy. I've fitted the replacement but have to swap tinware, ancillaries over etc. Too bloody cold to work on the drive at present. Hmmm.....

Taipan,

Yep, I believe they would, yes.

Maybe not full barter....but they would reflect the value of your engine in the price of the work! I sent two dead engines when I had my replacement. Got a further £100 off the work (but was an essentially running 1.9dg with some oil issues)

wouldn't bother with the e-mail...as you are so local I would have a run up there and talk to them!

shame I am so far away... I could have been interested although I need to get rid of some CT engines/bits first :)

I didn't have to go up there as they replied to my email and said to ring and speak to Mick, which I did and yes they will buy it. I didn't ask about swapping it for labour as I do really want to finish the job myself, but I get so little time at weekends. God I miss summer evenings when is still light! :( All things considered I should probably tow the thing up there and leave it with them. It would be nice to have it running again and be able to regain use of my driveway again!

Anyway enough of my waffle and for the benefit of the archives, Elite will buy old engines.
