Show us your head pitting

Post by mikey9 »

Further to my ongoing engine saga (do we all have one of these?)
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40796" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have finally cleaned up one head (the RH one where the seal didn't blow!) to see what kind of condition the surface was in...the answer is below.

oh and a crack between the valves.

Is it fair to say it was more a case of WHEN not WHY the seal blew out.

Thought it may be useful to reinforce the need to use the correct (phosphate free) antifreeze........I don't know what was in mine for the first 77k miles :shock:

I also wondered if this was typical or very bad - - not vital info as I have a replacement engine in now!Just want to learn more about the engine and it's foibles.

Here's one I removed after problems with a tight valve guide (note stuck inlet valve on LH chamber),,,,I thought it was in poor condition at the time, obviously it is fine..
