intermittent lighting prob

Post by jpee »

Hi all

Some pointers required re lights. 1985 1.9 water cooled petrol.

Having intermittent problem with lights (although now it seems more permanent)
No front lights, all other lights working. High beam light on and won't go off. Although sometimes if i hit a particularly van shaking pot hole, this rights itself and i have lights again.

It is obviously something loose, but due to it being freezing outside, a couple of pointers as to what it may possibly be would save me freezing my n**ts off searching blindly.

Thanks
Jpee
Never sure where I'm going till i get there.

Thanks for replies

Removed fuse box jiggle around and lights start working, so loose wire or short there somewhere which i will endeavor to find. Now lights are on, I've noticed offside dipped beam not working. How do you replace a bulb? do you have to remove full unit, or has VW popped in another one of there secret access panels somewhere?

pop the grill off, remove the 4 phillips screw that hold the healight in, and change the bulb, if its the bulb.
check fuses first

Thanks Mocki.

I thought that would be the way, but wanted to check there wasn't an easier way first.
