Fuel pump Location

Hi,

I'm in the process of fitting an electronic fuel pump. I'm aware it needs to fitted close to the tank.

I'm looking at fitting it to the chassis, however, the closer I fit it, the line comes down from the tank and back up to the pump.

Will the fact that the pump is slightly higher than the exit pipe from the tank make a difference??

What vehicle you got there and what engine. The 2.1 petrols have an electronic fuel pump, all fitted on the chassis rails, but then they have different tanks. Are you replacing the mechanical one on the engine with an electronic one which self regulates to 3 psi? to run a carb? Easier to put the mechanical one back on. However I would imagine that the majority of electronic pumps will not be self priming, the bosch petrol injection pumps certainly are not. So long as the pump is lower than the petrol level in the tank, then atmospheric pressure will start the pump working, even if the pipe starts a bit higher. Running the pump initially with a short piece of hose lower than the pump running into a container will allow the pump to work at full flow and get rid of any air.

is's a facet fuel pump It runs 2.5 - 3.5 psi and It's a 2.0l Aircooled 1981.

I was under the impression that the mech fuel pump were no longer available?

Yeah there was talk of these pumps being no longer available a while back, I see that JK only list a 1600 and 1900 mech pump, and an electric aftermarket one. I have seen Facet pumps in the engine bay, so they must be self priming, or primeable.

Some one with a 2000cc will be along soon.

This is how I mounted mine just behind the tank. The bracket is not really necessary but it enabled me to mount the pump on two existing holes without drilling the chassis.

Syncrosimon you're correct,the mechanical fuel pump sold by JK & GSF fits the 1.6CT & 1.9DG engines. Unfortunately, the mechanical fuel pump for the 2.0CU engine is obsolete.
