Clutch query....

Post by syncrodoug »

My modified 228mm DJ pressure plate appears to be not as robust as I hoped, the metal 'web' that supports the friction rotor has cracked.
In order to fit the limited space with 1.9 PD diesel dual mass flywheel I removed the damping springs and welded the centre to the metal 'web' that supports the friction rotor
Comparing this web with a proper PD friction (rigid) plate it is significantly thinner hence the failure.
My questions are, does the Golf Mk3 VR6 input shaft have the same diameter/pitch as the T3 2.1 DJ and is the supporting web thicker ??
Or alternatively does anyone know where I can get a 'custom' friciton plate made?
Thanking you in anticipation of enlightenment...

I think that just about all VW golfs mk II's are 22mm, with a few being 24mm, such as the (close ratio gearbox?) Mk III are all 24mm.

All Corrado's input shafts are the same.....they use a 228mm plate, same as a Passat upto 1997, A3 TDi and the 12v VR6. It is bigger , but I cant find out what diameter the shaft is.
