Blimey 90mph and I didnt even know.!

Post by HOT 1200 »

Coming home from Slough swap meet last night, cruising back to Norfolk my dash/instrument illumination had packed up and the speedo was plunged into darkness on the M25.

Then on the M11,wife and three kids were all fast asleep.........
we were buzzing along, I thought blimey we seem to be overtaking everything.......and shes really cruising......
So I gave the interiour light a quick switch on, Speedo was registering just over 90mph...........whoops.....

So backed off down to 'normal' cruising speed of 60-65mph and the Mtdi returned 37mpg (42ltr burnt over 345mile journey)

I have noticed the engine is noisey between 65 & 70mph, must be a harmonic vibration or something........but quiet above or below these speeds.........???
Anyone else got a diesel that has harmonics at diffrent speeds, anyone want to guess what it could be.........? Im running a petrol front g/box mount, should I change over to the softer/bigger diesel front mount?

Use oil filled engine mounts. The original T25 mounts are sh--- and pass a lot of vibration through them.

Yepp ...both my JX engines sound(ed) really annoying at about 96 - 100 km/h ...much better below or above.

At that speed all the other ding gets underlayed with noise that sounds like a low "whoah" played at 25 rpm ..almost of hypnotic quality, but not quite ...just annoying

I know what you mean, its a sort of droaning noise.......thought is was my diff...but not that.....I did get rid of a lot of noise by fitting a JX airfilter box and throwing out the boy racer K&N thing.....that solved the induction noise problems........

So, oil filled engine mounts.......educate me and enlighten me please!

Noise

Post by markscoot »

Noise?!!its aDiesel! You need a Subaru in there bud!
Nah, seriously, my 1600D was the same all but the speed!
I found that the air intake is routed into the near side tray area as standard, the noise goes straight into the body frame, along the gutter area and into yer ears. :x I removed the trunking from there and routed it towards the floor away from the body but steering clear of the hot ai from the exhaust. This was no cure but better.
Now I turn off the radio and listen to the roar of Subaru- nice. Quiet on a run now though, cant hear it from inside the motor on tick over. :D
Sorry I missed you at the weekend, see you soon bud. My compliments on your Diesel and the speed youve wrung out of it!
Cheers, Mark.
