1.6TD.
On the righthand side of the instruction panel in the middle position, there is a 3 way switch with a small orange led.
At present, press it once from the off position and the front fog lights come on, but no orange led. Press it again and the fog lamps stay on and the orange led lights up.
As it's a 3 way switch, I was wondering if it could also be used to operate the rear fog lamp? I.e. Press once from the off position to turn on the rear fog lamp, press again and the front and rear come on?
Anyone?

Its ment to be wired so its [OFF]-[FRONT]-[FRONT+REAR with telltail bulb]. You can't select rear only (if you have front fog's fitted). Thats the standard setup for EU lighting regs. If a van had some form of foglamp, it had the 3 way switch regardless of which lamps it actully had, still operating as above. All UK spec vans have/need rear fog as standard. Sounds like yours is a euro spec van with front fogs only - you'll probubly find the wires for a rear fog are already fitted and will go to the left cluster (which might not have a foglamp). The wire is mainly grey, swap it to your right hand foglamp and all will work as it was designed to with no nasty add on switches.
I don't know why the telltail is only designed to work with the rear fog, but it is. Front fogs now are ment to have a seperate telltail but they obveously didn't back then (they are also surposed to be self canseling now if you turn off the headlamps/ignition or have a warning alarm but again the T3 misses out on this so you could leave it on (yes that does mean the twats that drive their modern cars with the foglamps on have to deliberately turn them on every time!)). Front fogs aren't on the MOT anyway so their operation/telltail is not an issue (rear telltail IS!). I can see my front fogs shineing on the road so its sort of a telltail in its own right.

Many thank for the detailed explanation. That's exactly how they now work.
Yes, it's a recently German imported T3 Gipsy with working front spots. I've now incorporated the fog lamp within the rear right (off-side) lighting cluster and wired it to the spare position on the switch. Exactly as you describe it works, [OFF]-[FRONT]-[FRONT+REAR with telltail bulb].

Cheers for that!
