engines out need advice please

Hello,

finally started having a look at the DG i got as part of the ebay thing from dickspanner.

i've taken a few parts of the engine to pieces and so far am very happy but just need some advice on while it's out what seals etc to change and what other bits need / would be nice to change

Check the crankshaft end-float and change the rear oil seal?
Check/clean all threads of the exhaust ports, for manifolds, new bolts or studs as required.

Also make sure that you get genuine VW seals.

Fitting cheapo seals from my past experience are really not worth wasting your time and effort !!! My pushrod tube seals from Just Kampers only lasted 5,000 miles and spewed oil everywhere !!!

Thanks both of you, exhaust has been cut off anyways as that was pretty bust new one ordered couldnt believe the price of the manifold pipes so they are staying, pretty solid anyway

taken most of the easy bits of the motor off and am just awaiting the wagon to be painted before i get to put the thing in

Water pump? At least check bearing for rock. Main steel water pipes and hoses, take a look 'inside' all of them for corrosion/perishment

Main crank seal whould be double lipped...
