What's this (propex) bit called?

We've got two of these on the van and both of them have seen better days so I'd like to replace them if possible. I think they cover the inlet and exhaust for the propex? One is on the side of the van and the other is underneath the van.

I've googled "Propex flue vent / cover" but had no joy. Looked on Propex site, cak tanks site and ebay and can't see them in those places either.

So does it go by another name? Maybe I've been looking for the wrong thing! If I can get a name for it I'll post in the wanted section.

If they're no longer available does anybody know of anything similar that would serve the purpose? e.g. Electrolux fridge flue cover (but they come as part of a kit that costs £28!

)

id be taking that off, cleaning it up and repainting it and refitting it, its only tatty, not phooked!

(a good ole spin in the dishwasher when the purple sweetyeater isnt around would make it much cleaner!)

Tony, there are 2 of those on the underside of my van. They could be referred to as something like ''air inlet vent'' & ''exhaust outlet vent''. They may have been manufactured by Auto-Sleeper Ltd & not Propex. The destructions for the Propex X1 refer to open ened pipes under the van with no mention whatsoever of vents/grilles on the end.

Tony, get the compressor out and give it a blast with the sandblasting kit, and like mocki says give a lick of paint , brand new

It also looks specially made, so would have to be lucky to find one that would be a direct replacement. Looked through the Reimo catalouge, and nothing remotely similar, all the new gas stuff comes with their own specific vent type thing. Best repaint, with an exhaust type high temp paint, to be on the safe side. That and new screws will make it look amazing, and it will be original.

i made my own porpex covers and they dont get megga hot so just normal rattle can paint it ok, i use halfords satin black looks nice wnen finished!!

I've had a bit of a look around for the same thing with no success so far.
Yours look the same as mine (rusty!)
When i removed the top one , it disintegrated! The pipe behind (that the ducting connects to) was completely rusted through so no possibilities to paint it up.
Good luck with yours though and let us know if you find any replacements!

As previously posted I've got 2 of these vents on the underside of my van. This afternoon I removed the metal shield that protects the exhaust outlet vent & then unscrewed the actual vent.

I needed to remove the exhaust vent from the van in order to remove the remnants of the old aluminium flexi tube from the metal pipe that sticks up through the floor. Once it is refitted to the van I can then fit the new stainless steel exhaust flexi hose.

The actual vent (see Tony's photo) is rustier than the one on Tony's van. The metal grille is disintegrating in places & could not withstand cleaning with a wire brush. As Big Tam suggests an airline could be used but there is a flat circular baffle inside the vent which is a nuisance when trying to shake bits of rust out.

I am going to email both Propex Heatsource & Auto-Sleeper Ltd to try to find out who made this type of vent. I reckon they will have been made by/for Auto-Sleeper.

In order to try & find out who made these vents/grilles & whether or not they are still available I have emailed Auto-Sleepers Ltd. & the very helpful Richard Kitchener at Propex Heatsource Ltd.

Well done! I've done some serious googling on this very subject and got nowhere! Interested to hear what you come up with....

The one that's under the van is in very poor condition compared to the one in the photo.

Thanks very much for all the answers and info. I'm in no hurry to sort this at the moment (more pressing jobs on the list to do first), just wanted to put some feelers out and see what the situation is with these parts.

Bowton Lad - it hadn't occurred to me that this might be an Autosleeper thing, rather than a Propex one. Good of you to be contacting those people and trying to make some headway with this. Much appreciated.

Big Tam - good idea. The compressor is still in it's box though . . . help!

James - what did you make your covers out of, and can I take a photo of one next time I see you?

Ian - I bought a mixed box of stainless steel self-tappers (and another one of nuts, bolts and washers) after you'd recommended them for a previous job (can't remember which one!). Thanks for the offer though.

Thanks again for all the help and if I make any progress with sorting a replacement for the damaged one, I'll certainly share the info on here.

Makes me wonder what Autosleeper are using with the Propex on the t4's and t5's etc?
