My DG 1.9 started to stutter and have some quite bad flat spots on the way home from work today, previously it has been fine although it has seemed to struggle to warm up in the last few (cold) days,it runs crap when cold, fine when warm
Could my problems be carb icing?.was actually snowing quite heavily on the way home..if so any solutions?
Mine does this sometimes, so did the last van, as if the fuel isnt getting through or the mix isn't right, always clears after a couple of hours, especially if given a hot hard run. Maybe muck in the fuel filter?
mine is doin the same seen steve shaw today he said i need the timing reset as mine cuts out between cold and warm sort of speak seems like yhe choke comes of to soon but steve said while im on LPG the choke dont need to work so timing reset it is for me
There are 3 kinds of people in this world.......
those who can count and those who cant!!!!!!!
Replace the fuel filter and the short length of hose between the fuel tank outlet and the filter - total cost about £5. Also check that the distributor's vacuum advance unit isn't sticking. Worth checking the timing too; they do slip.
If that doesn't work, check the plasticky mounting spacer/insulator thing (technical terminology...) between the carburettor and the inlet manifold. These can warp and leak, allowing air in. There will be stains on it if it's leaking. Still available from VW, I think.
