My 1989 2.1 multivan's heater fan is a bit temperamental......i doesnt work at all on "number 1", and on "numbers2 & 3" it works intermittentley - it'll start out ok, then slow down, then speed up, then stop, then start again, etc
firstly - is it easy enough to get to - secondly - is it an easy repair, or will it be a new uniit ?

try the switch before you start taking the dash out. if the fan didnt work at all it would probably be seized on spindle - quite common .
The fact that the fan does work but it dosnt work on 1 position on the switch and intermitantly on the other 2 positions would make me swap the switch first.
Have a look on GSF website , think they are £6 ish.

as the man above said, check the switch first........ then the fuse, not unusual for a grotty connection at the fuse holder to cause this, but if it is the fan itself, its a dash out job........ 3 to 4 hours ish

heater probs
Had exactly that problem on our 1990 van.
Try the switch because its a dash out job to mend/replace the fan.
I fixed ours by freeing up the carbon brushes in the motor, which were sticking. Just a bit of wd40 down the side of each brush and then wiggle backwards and forwards not had a problem since.
regards
